| Employment Screening |
 |
When it comes to employment
screening, we have proudly served business, industry, government
and the military now for over 29 years. It's no exaggeration
to say we practically invented this industry.
When we started our business in January 1980, there were
three national employment screening providers. Over the
years, two of those closed leaving
APSCREEN as the oldest continuously
operated employment screener in the United States. In addition,
in about 1992, an explosion occurred in the employment screening
industry with the advent of a then emerging area of profound
potential business liability commonly known as "negligent
hiring."
Here we saw common workplace situations redefined and cultivated
for potential litigation by shrewd and attentive plaintiff's
counsel, not to mention that a new level of workplace violence
incidents seemed to be occurring including shootings at
the US post offices. The need for determining employability
by factoring in the personal histories of applicants was
concretized and became the impetus for a new acronym called
"Workplace Violence Prevention."
These two factors, along with more sophisticated computer
systems and an increasing market misperception that an applicant's
background information was easy to get, created a cottage
industry within the information infrastructure. When the
new Consumer Credit Reporting Reform Act took effect in
1997, many providers were no longer in operation.
Why should you use APSCREEN
for employment screening?
As the oldest company still in this business, we are considered
the standard upon which most other programs are based; due
in part to the extensive writing, publishing and providing
of expert testimony on related topics by our founder, Tom
Lawson. To date, APSCREEN
has discovered over 200 competing firms that it can directly
attribute use of our programs structures, forms, processes,
and procedures.
This is what you get when you write the book on a particular
industry, and as long as we are the ones who are being copied,
that keeps us in first place - and we believe that makes
us the only screener you would want to use.
APSCREEN also holds the top
spot in compliance guidelines under the new
Fair and Accurate
Credit Transactions Act, the
Fair Credit Report Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and is
a veteran of compliance with the
Fair Credit Reporting Act.
When you want to be the best, you have to accept only the
best, and many times you have to invent it. That's just
what APSCREEN did.
